In short. A dining chair with armrests slides under the table only if the top of the armrest stays below the table apron, with about 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cm) of clearance according to the furniture retailer DutchCrafters. At Deko District, the measured armrest heights are 65 cm (Kane), 67 cm (Dominic) and 69 cm (Stylix), so the underside of the apron must be at least 69.5 cm, 71.5 cm or 73.5 cm from the floor.

The measurement to take: floor to apron
DutchCrafters suggests measuring from the floor to the lowest point of the table, the apron if there is one, then comparing it with the height of the armrest. It gives about 25 inches (63.5 cm) for the top of an armrest and adds that if the space from the floor to the apron is under 25 inches, armchairs are unlikely to fit under the table. Applied to the chairs whose product page gives the armrest height:
| Chair | Armrest height | Minimum height under the table apron (armrest + 4.5 cm) |
|---|---|---|
| Kane | 65 cm | 69.5 cm |
| Dominic | 67 cm | 71.5 cm |
| Stylix | 69 cm | 73.5 cm |
Example: a table with a top at 75 cm and a 10 cm apron leaves 65 cm under the apron, which is not enough for any of these three chairs to slide underneath. They then stay in front of the table, which takes more room in the dining area.

Width and spacing
DutchCrafters notes that an armchair is about 6 inches (15 cm) wider than a side chair and advises adding 5 to 6 inches (13 to 15 cm) to the chair’s width for the space between chairs. With footprints from 46 x 45.5 cm (Stylix) to 62 x 58 cm (Dominic), check the length of your table with our dining table size guide.
