In short. A velvet dining chair costs from €29.90 at Deko District (Skögur, 11 colours in stock) up to €129.90 for Rhys, upholstered in velvet down to the legs. Velvet gives a soft touch and deep colours, but it shows dust and pet hair more than a smooth fabric. The same velvet is also found on bar stools from €39.90 and on a swivel desk chair at €55.90.
Prices updated in October 2026.
Velvet at the dining table: pros and cons
- pros: soft touch, saturated colours (mustard, dark green, dark blue, dark red) and a slight sheen that changes with the light
- pros: the colour range is wide on the entry-level models, up to 11 shades for Skögur
- cons: the pile catches dust, crumbs and pet hair, and it keeps the mark of a hand or a knee for a while
- cons: light shades such as cream, white or pastel blue show stains sooner than dark grey or dark blue

How to look after a velvet chair
These are general tips; always follow the care label of your chair first.
- vacuum the seat once a week with a soft brush nozzle, in the direction of the pile
- blot a spill straight away with a dry or slightly damp cloth, without rubbing
- if the pile is crushed, brush it gently in its direction once dry
- keep the chairs away from direct sun, which can fade strong colours
- at the table with children, prefer a dark shade such as dark grey or dark blue
Which colour to choose?
Velvet looks darker and richer than the same colour in smooth fabric. Mustard, dark green and dark blue are the shades offered on most of the models above. To mix colours around one table, Skögur and Evelyne keep the same shape in every colour, so the set stays coherent. Under a light wood table, dark green or mustard stand out; around a dark table, light grey or cream add contrast.
